I came across this very interesting post about marketing authors 'sins' courtesy of David Maister's blog. Well worth reading, and I'll admit that technology authors - hardcover and paperback authors, bloggers, and myself included, sometimes fall into one or more of these nicely defined categories.
Of course, as is explained in David's post, we have to act and write like that because our customers and audiences expect it. They're still looking for silver bullets, and we're still more than pleased to be providing the ammunition...:)
I've been pretty tied up with travel and client work the past few weeks...I'll get back to more blogging over the weekend assuming that this 90-degree cloudless weather we're currently enjoying in the Pacific Northwest doesn't hold...:)
Thanks for picking up on the topic. There's something serious here for all of us, it comes down to the question of "do we give the public what they say they want, or what we think they need?" Are we (technology advisors and consultants, as well as authors) artists or entertainers?
